Kinderhook Farm Chickens

We
have several breeds of chickens, including heritage breeds. Our
flock produces brown, white and tinted eggs depending on the
breed.
The eggmobile provides our chickens with shelter and access to
water and feed. During the day they are free to forage for a
chicken's natural diet - all kinds of seeds, green plants, insects
and worms. All droppings return to the soil which enriches the
pasture. Every few days we move the eggmobile to fresh pasture.
The nesting boxes provided for our hens are accessible from the
outside and we collect their eggs twice a day. At dusk, the hens
return to their house and hop up a branch ladder to get to the
higher roosts which are hanging near the roof. They feel safe
and comfortable up there. We close the doors to keep predators
out and open them again in the morning.
The pastured eggs we offer have more beta carotene, vitamin A,
vitamin E and Omega-3's and less cholesterol and saturated fat
than factory farm eggs where the chickens never see the outdoors.
See Mother Earth News, "Meet
Real Free-Range Eggs" at
www.motherearthnews.com for more information.
If you would like to experience collecting your own freshly laid,
warm eggs from under a hen, let us know and we will be glad to
give you a tour of the eggmobile. Please call ahead to schedule
your visit.
